‘Sushant made us proud,’ says ‘Chhichhore’ director

‘Chhichhore’, starring late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, won the award for Best Hindi Feature Film at the 67th National Film Awards event on Monday. Nitesh Tiwari, the director of ‘Chhichhore’, accepted the prize and dedicated it to Sushant, saying that he had “made us proud,” reports Hindustan Times.

Nitesh Tiwari spoke about Sushant Singh Rajput during the occasion, dedicating the award to him and said, “Sushant is a key character in our film. We were proud of him. This award is dedicated to him.”

When the awards were announced in March of this year, Sajid Nadiadwala, the film’s producer, wrote on Instagram, “On behalf of NGE, I dedicate this incredibly prestigious honor to Sushant Singh Rajput.” We will never be able to get over his death, but I really hope that this honor brings some joy to his family and admirers, including myself. And I owe Nitesh Tiwari a huge debt of gratitude for delivering us all this amazing film.”

At ‘India Today Mind Rocks 2019’, Sushant had opened up about choosing ‘Chhichhore’. He had said, “ I have so many memories from Delhi College of Engineering, wanted to relive them. An important reason to do ‘Chhichhore’ was, of course, great script and great director, but more than anything I wanted to relive my college days.”

‘Chhichhore’ was released on September 6, 2019, and marked Shraddha Kapoor and Sushant’s first collaboration. Prateik Babbar, Siddharth Narayan, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Prashant Narayanan and Tushar Pandey played supporting roles in the film.

Sushant Singh Rajput died in June 2020. ‘Chhichhore’ was his last commercially successful and critically acclaimed film that crossed the Rs 100-crore mark. The film was Sushant’s biggest hit ever.
