Having made her silver-screen directorial debut with the film ‘Bishwoshundori’ amid the pandemic last year, director Chayanika Chowdhury is now gearing up to start a new project where she will be directing actress Mahiya Mahi in a lead role.
Mahi was roped in for the project ‘Ohongkari Bou’ on Tuesday co-starring actor DA Tayeb.
Confirming the news to The Business Post on Wednesday, Chayanika Chowdhury said that ‘Ohongkari Bou’ is a ready project and she will be working as a paid director for it.
“I was told about the story and informed that Mahiya Mahi is doing it. Reading the story, I found her absolutely perfect for the role,” said Chayanika.
“I have watched two of Mahi’s films one is ‘Dhaka Attack’ and the other is ‘Morichika’. The two films made me a great fan of Mahi,” Chayanika added.
“She looks pretty and also acts well. I think she is a director-artiste who performs as per director’s guidance,” added the director.
“In that aspect, I feel that Mahi matches thoroughly with this character. As the name of this project is ‘Ohongkari Bou’, she has the look of ‘Ohongkari’ on her face. I hope this project may come out wonderful,” Chayanika said.
As the title suggests, the story of the film ‘Ohongkari Bou’ falls into the genre of family drama. “If everything goes fine, it will go on floors next month,” said the director.
Mostly known for directing TV plays, Chayanika Chowdhury’s first silver-screen directorial ‘Bishwishundori’ starring Pori Moni and Siam Ahmed was released theatrically on December 11 last year.
She said, “I do not regret that my debut film ‘Bishwoshundori’ was released amid the pandemic scare last year, rather I am very happy that the film drew a huge audience amid the Covid. The shows were houseful and the film ran for four months and earned praise. I am very happy. But, if a lot of halls remained opened countrywide in that time, the mass audience could go to watch it”.
“As the halls have been reopened now, people will get the opportunity to watch the film when it will come to theatres again,” added Chayanika.
Chayanika is expected to go on filming for her another upcoming project, a web film titled ‘Antorale’ starring Pori Moni, from early next year.
She said, “Scripting of ‘Antorale’ has come to an end. We will start filming at the end of January after fixing the schedules of the cast and crew and the locations”.
