Pakistani commercial film ‘Khel Khel Mein’ is now hitting headlines for its storyline which is based on the liberation war of Bangladesh. The film raises questions against the traditional narrative of Pakistani media on Bangladesh’s liberation war.

The film features Sajal Aly and Bilal Abbas Khan in the lead roles. Directed by Nabeel Qureshi and produced by Fizza Ali Meerza, the film is a historical drama that depicts the perspective of youth to change the wrong narrative about the liberation war.

“Fifty years of mistrust memories and myths,” reads the synopsis of the film, which is inspired by true events.

Starting from the flashbacks of war, the teaser of the film goes onto show glimpses of present-day youngsters enrolled in a school play that is set to look back at the events of Bangladesh’s Liberation War of 1971. It closes with Sajal’s character asking her presumable class mates, “Why are we carrying the burden of a false accusation? Or did we also become pawns in a game initiated by our enemies?”

The teaser depicts two generations of Pakistanis: one who has subjected Bangladeshis to severe brutality and torture, and the younger age, particularly university students, who have been fed many misconceptions about our country.

The upcoming film, slated to release on November 19, is the first Pakistani production to screen in a cinema post pandemic.
