Actress Tanha Tasnia Islam has announced her new film ‘Taramon’ based on the life of decorated freedom fighter Taramon Bibi, Bir Pratik. The actress said that it’s a matter of great pride to play the role of an iconic war veteran.
The film ‘Taramon’ is directed by Aminur Islam Liton with the script written by Shoroisshorjo Muhammad. Noted theatre personality Nasir Uddin Yousuff is the advising director of the project.
Talking to The Business Post on Thursday, Tanha Tasnia said, “Definitely I am delighted to be on board the project. It’s a matter of great pride for me.”
“It’s like a dream project for me. I have always wanted to work in any project based on the Liberation War. I am feeling good that it’s happening,” she added.
The actress said she also recently collaborated with the makers of ‘Tarmon’ for a web series. “Afterwards, they thought of me for this role and I instantly agreed when they made the offer. I am very lucky to get such a character,” he said.
At a press briefing on Wednesday, Tanha Tasnia said that she has accepted the challenge to portray the iconic character of Taramon Begum, better known as Taramon Bibi. “When you will see the film, you will get to know what types of challenging matters it requires. And I have accepted it.”
“It’s a matter of great pleasure to play such a historical character. We are proud of our Liberation War,” she added.
She said that she will start preparing herself and study about Taramon Bibi. “I will try to hold the spirit of Taramon in me to perform her character,” added Tasnia.
Tanha Tasnia Islam, who is also active on TV, last shot for Rokibul Islam Rokib directed film ‘Biye Aami Korbona’ in January this year. The film is already cleared by the censor board and currently awaiting release.
The actress said that she will remain simultaneously active on both television and films.
Having made her cinematic debut with the film ‘Bhola To Jay Na Tare’ in 2016, Tanha Tasnia has starred in ‘Dhumketu’ co-starring Shakib Khan and Pori Moni and ‘Bhaklo Theko’ with Arifin Shuvoo.
‘Taramon’ is expected to go on the floors in the middle of December or January next year. It will mostly be shot in Kurigram, the birthplace of Taramon Bibi.
One of the two female freedom fighters in Bangladesh to have received the gallantry award Bir Pratik, Taramon Bibi had fought in Sector 11 during the Liberation War in 1971. She had
joined the guerrilla force ‘Mukti Bahini’ and fought on the frontline during the war.
Taramon passed away at the age of 62 in December 2018.
