The Bangladesh Film Archive and the Arun Film Society are jointly organising a month-long festival of films based on the 1971 War of Liberation in 17 upazilas as part of the celebration of the golden jubilee of the country’s independence,
The festival is being held in 17 upazilas of Chandpur, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Pabna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Sirajganj, Jamalpur, Mymensingh, Pabna and Meherpur.
The festival will feature 30 full-length films and 11 documentaries on the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and seven documentaries on the Liberation War.

State Minister for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam inaugurated the festival at Matlab Upazila Auditorium in Chadampur on Monday. Local lawmaker Md Nurul Amin, Bangladesh Film Archive Director General Md Nizamul Kabir were also present at the function with Matlab Upazila Nirbahi Officer Gazi Shariful Hasan in the chair.
The opening ceremony of the festival featured three liberation war films titled ‘Muktir Gan’ directed by Tareque Masud, ‘Stop Genocide’ directed by Zahir Raihan and ‘Aguner Poroshmoni’ directed by Humayun Ahmed.
The Arun Film Society has taken this initiative to imbue the masses with the spirit of the liberation war and to show respect to the freedom fighters.
Arun Film Society wants to present the true history of the Liberation War among the grassroots people by showing the films on Liberation War at the upazila level. Bangladesh Film Archive is providing all kinds of technical assistance for this event.
