Acclaimed Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday to start the Bangladesh schedule of ‘Bangabandhu’, a biographical film on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Mohammad Hossain Jaimy, line producer of the Bangladesh unit for ‘Bangabandhu’, said that shooting for the film will begin on November 20.
The remaining part of the film is expected to be shot in Bangabandhu Film City in Gazipur. Actor Arifin Shuvoo, who is playing Bangabanbdhu, will take part in the shooting from the first day while another cast Nusraat Faria, who is portraying Sheikh Hasina, will be on the sets from December 5.
Indo-Bangla production ‘Bangabandhu’ started filming in January in Mumbai. After its India schedule, the shooting was supposed to start in Bangladesh in March 2019 which was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the film, Arifin Shuvoo will be seen playing the role of Bangabandhu while Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Dighi will be portraying the elder and younger versions of Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib (Renu), the wife of Bangabandhu, respectively. Nusraat Faria will appear as Sheikh Hasina in her early youth while Jannatul Sumaiya will play her elder version.
Gazi Rakayet, Tauquir Ahmed, Dilara Zaman, Siam Ahmed, Misha Sawdagar, Sayem Samad, Elina Shammi, Raisul Islam Asad, Shahidul Alam Sacchu and Khairul Alam Sabuj are among the other cast.
The much-awaited ‘Bangabandhu’ biopic is expected to be released in March 2022.
