Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal is set to begin the Bangladesh part schedule and the last leg shooting of ‘Bangabandhu’, a biographical film on the life of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, from today.
The shooting will begin at Bangabandhu Film City from today, Mohammad Hossain Jaimy, filmmaker and line producer of the Bangladesh unit for ‘Bangabandhu’, told The Business Post on Saturday.
Shyam Benegal and his team arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday and the shooting was expected to begin from Saturday, which was later delayed by a day.
Mohammad Hossain Jaimy on Friday shared a set of photos on his Facebook profile where he was seen along with Shyam Benegal at Savar Cantonment. “The Bangladesh part of ‘Bangabandhu’ biopic shooting will be started soon. We, along with the legendary director Shyam Benegal, are preparing in full swing,” he captioned the post.
Earlier, a Mumbai team came to Dhaka for carrying out location scouting and plate shooting as part of its preparation to begin the Bangladesh schedule of ‘Bangabandhu’.
Actor Arifin Shuvoo, who is essaying the role of Bangabandhu in the biopic, is expected to join the shooting from the first day in Bangabandhu Film City. Shuvoo declined to reveal anything to The Business Post about shooting right this moment.
Earlier, in January, the shooting of ‘Bangabandhu’ began in Mumbai after a delay for the Covid-19 pandemic. The launching ceremony was held in Mumbai’s Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari.
In February, Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud visited the film sets installed at Dadasaheb Phalke Film City in Mumbai’s Goregaon.
The film ‘Bangabandhu’ was announced during the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Its screenplay is co-written by Atul Tiwari and Shama Zaidi.
Actress Nusraat Faria, who is playing the role of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Elina Shammi, who has recently joined the cast to portray BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, are expected to join the shooting early in December.
Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Prarthana Fardin Dighi, Jannatul Sumaiya, Gazi Rakayet, Tauquir Ahmed, Dilara Zaman, Siam Ahmed, Misha Sawdagar, Sayem Samad, Raisul Islam Asad, Shahidul Alam Sacchu and Khairul Alam Sabuj are among the other cast.
In the highly-anticipated film, Tisha and Dighi will be portraying the elder and younger versions of Bangabandhu wife, Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib (Renu) respectively. Faria will be seen as Sheikh Hasina in her early youth while Sumaiya in the elder version.
Produced under the Audio-Visual Co-Production Agreement between India and Bangladesh, ‘Bangabandhu’ is expected to be released in March 2022.
