‘House of Light’ to be screened at Athens Ethnofest

Bangladeshi filmmaker and editor Mahmud Hasan Kayesh’s ‘House of Light’ is set to be screened at the 12th edition of Athens Ethnographic Film Festival, known as Ethnofest.

‘House of Light’ (2020), a sensory ethnography short documentary, is an intimate portrait of one family’s daily life when forced to remain together in their apartment in Dhaka city during the Covid-19 pandemic. The film was shot by director Kayesh on his mobile
phone.

The film was also nominated in One World Media awards 2021, UK and Nahemi Canon Shorts Film Festival, UK in the same year.   

Mahmud Hasan Kayesh, also a film editor and a faculty member at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), edited the short film ‘Is it me?’ (2020’which was enlisted to the British Council’s film directory as well as won the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival’s ‘Personal Narrative’ prize. ‘Is it me?’ was also among the shortlisted nominees in the Best Student Documentary category at the Grierson Awards – widely considered the Oscars of the documentary world.

The Ethnofest was founded in 2011 to promote visual anthropology through kaleidoscopic endeavors and initiatives of ethnographic research and education.

Kayesh told The Business Post that ‘House of Light’ is scheduled to be screened on November 30 and December 1, 2 at the Ethnofest 12th which is slated to run from November 25 until December 5.
