Director Rezwan Shahriar Sumit’s feature film ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’, (The Salt in Our Waters’), based on the lives of a group of fishermen in the country’s coastal area, had a special screening for the fishing community in Patuakhali ahead of its theatrical release.

‘Nonajoler Kabbo’, which was screened at the UN Climate Change Conference, better known as COP26 earlier this month, was shown for the fishing families living in Kuakata Picnic Spot and Char Gangamati. As many as 1,200 people came to watch the film on November 22, said the organisers in a press release.

‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ starring Fazlur Rahman Babu, Tasnova Tamanna, Mrittika Maya, Shatabdi Wadud and Titash Zia, among others, is scheduled to be released in theatres on November 26.

After garnering praise in various film festivals in London, Busan, Sao Paolo, Seattle and Singapore, the film was screened in IMAX Theatre in Glasgow, United Kingdom, on November 8 during the COP26. Before that, the film had another screening at the UN COY16 (UN Climate Change Conference of Youth) in the same city on October 29.

Director Sumit said, “The film highlights the daily life of the fishermen in the country’s coastal areas and their struggle to survive in the face of adverse weather. The focus of ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ is the social life and crisis of the fisherman.”

‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ was shot during the 2018 monsoon in the village of Gangamatir Char in Patuakhali, Sumit shared with The Business Post.

He said, “I learned that the sea level in this area has risen dramatically in the past two to three years. I hope people will start taking climate change seriously and initiate conservation about the effects of climate change in the root level and study about it.”

‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ is jointly produced by Sumit and Ilann Girard of France. The film bagged the NETPAC Award at the 26th Kolkata International Film Festival.

The music of the film was arranged by Shayan Chowdhury Arnob.
