Bangladesh Police Natya Dal has staged the drama ‘Abhishopto August’ at the theatre festival ‘Bangabandhu O Swadhinata Natyotsab’ celebrating the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh.

The play was staged at the experimental hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.

The plot of ‘Abhishopto August’ is about a set of events before the brutal killings of Bangabandhu and his family members in their Dhanmondi 32 residence on the night of August 15.

The cohorts of Khandaker Mushtaq Ahmed, the masterminds behind the assassination of Bangabandhu, and the enemies of the nation have also been highlighted in the play.

Bangladesh Police Natya Dal production ‘Abhishopto August’ is written and directed by Police Inspector of Narayanganj district Md Jahidur Rahman and planned by Deputy Inspector General of Dhaka Range Habibur Rahman.

On Tuesday, Dhaka Padatik’s play ‘Kotha 71’ and Bunon Theatre’s ‘Secret of History’ were staged at Shilpakala’s experimental hall, as part of the 11-day ‘Bangabandhu O Swadhinata Natyotsab’ theatre festival.

‘Secret of History’ shows the assassination of the four national leaders of Bangladesh in the prison and various incidents after 1975. The military coup and the uprising of the rebellions are also highlighted in this play.

‘Bangabandhu o Swadhinata Natyotsab’, organised by theatre troupe Mahakal Natya Sampraday, began at the National Theatre Hall of BSA on December 3 and will continue until December 13.
