‘Nonajoler Kabbo’, ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ win MISAFF awards

Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s highly-anticipated film ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ and Rezwan Shahriar Sumit’s ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ have won three awards at this year’s Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival based in Canada.

MISAFF 2021 took place from December 1st to 5th in Ontario.

Rezwan Shahriar Sumit, the director of ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’, got the award for Best Director while Chananun Chotarungraj won the award for Best Cinematographer.

Actress Azmeri Haque Badhon bagged the Best Actress award for her brilliant performance in ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’, which is Bangladesh’s official entry to the Oscars 2022.

After garnering praise in various film festivals in London, Busan, Sao Paolo, Seattle and Singapore, ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ was screened in IMAX Theatre in Glasgow, United Kingdom, on November 8 during the COP26. Before that, the film had another screening at the UN COY16 (UN Climate Change Conference of Youth) in the same city on October 29.

Director Sumit said, “The film highlights the daily life of the fishermen in the country’s coastal areas and their struggle to survive in the face of adverse weather.

The focus of ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ is the social life and crisis of the fishermen.”

“The jury was moved by the incredible story, cinematography, setting, landscape, environmental message and performances. Congratulations to Chananun Chotrungroj and Rezwan Shahriar Sumit for creating on-screen magic and working with insane elements,” the jury of the MISAFF said about ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’.

‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ is the first Bangladeshi film to be featured in ‘Un Certain Regard’ section of Cannes. The story of the film revolves

around ‘Rehana’, an assistant professor at a private medical college, played by Badhon.
