Two government grant winning films, ‘Lal Moroger Jhuti’ directed by Nurul Alam Atique and ‘Kalbela’ directed by late filmmaker and freedom fighter Saidul Anam Tutul are releasing in theatres today.

In Dhaka, ‘Lal Moroger Jhuti’ can be watched at all four branches of Star Cineplex and Blockbuster Cinemas in Jamuna Future Park and CineScope in Narayanganj.

The makers of the film earlier announced that the release will mark 50 years of independence of Bangladesh.

‘Kalbela’, which won the government grants for the fiscal year 2017-18, can be watched at all four branches of Star Cineplex, Blockbuster Cinemas in Jamuna Future Park and Silver Screen in Chattogram. The film had a special screening at the Liberation War Museum in Agargaon on Wednesday. Produced under the banner of Tutul’s production house ‘Akar’, ‘Kalbela’ stars Tahmina Authoi, Shishir Ahmed, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Lutfar Rahman George and Tanvir Masud, among others.

Saidul Anam Tutul passed away on December 18, 2018, leaving the film incomplete which was later done under the supervision of his widow Mobasshwera Khanam.

Written and directed by Nurul Alam Atique, ‘Laal Moroger Jhuti’ won the government grants for the fiscal year 2014-15. Produced under the banner of Pandulipi Karkhana, the film was mostly shot in Kushtia, Tangail and Gouripur from 2016 to 2020. The official trailer of the film was released by its makers on the YouTube channel of Pandulipi Karkhana on November 25.

The ensemble cast of ‘Laal Moroger Jhuti’ has Laila Hasan, Ahmed Rubel, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Ashok Bepary, Ashish Khandaker, Shilpi Sarkar, Joyraj, Ellora Gawhar, Jyotika Jyoti, Dilruba Doyel, Swagata, Shahjahan Samrat, Dipak Sumon, Khalilur Rahman Kaderi and Ananta Munir, among many others.

Director Atique said that ‘Lal Moroger Jhuti’ is an attempt to go beyond the traditional portrayal of Liberation War based stories.
