Today marks the third death anniversary of Ekushey Padak and National Film Award-winning filmmaker and writer Amjad Hossain.
Bangladesh Film Directors Association will hold a discussion and prayer session at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) in the capital to commemorate the day.
On this occasion, a rally will pay tribute to the late filmmaker in his hometown Jamalpur.
Members of as many as 60 organisations including Amjad Hossain Charcha Kendra, Udichi Shilpi Gisthi, Khelaghar Asar Jamalpur will take part in the rally to be led by Amjad Hossain’s eldest son, filmmaker Sajjad Hossain Dodul.
The leaders of the participating organisations will pay homage to Amjad Hossain by placing wreaths at his grave. Besides, a milad and doa mahfil will also be held there.
Born in Jamalpur on August 14, 1942, Amjad Hossain began his acting career in 1961 with the film ‘Tomar Amar’. Later on, he rose to fame as a director and scriptwriter.
‘Sundori’ (1979), ‘Koshai’ (1980), ‘Jonmo Theke Jolchhi’ (1982), ‘Dui Poysar Alta’ (1982), ‘Bhat Dey’ (1984), ‘Golapi Ekhon Dhakay’ (2006), and ‘Golapi Ekhon Bilatey’ (2007) are some his noted work as a director.
Throughout his life, the twelve-time National Film Award winner received many honours, including the Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Literary Award, Agrani Bank Shishu Sahitya Puraskar and Bachsas Awards. He breathed his last at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok at the age of 76 in 2018.
