‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ to premiere in US at Palm Springs Film Fest

Director Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s much-talked-about film ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ featuring Azmeri Haque Badhon in the lead role has been nominated for Best International Feature Film in the competition section at Palm Springs International Film Festival 2022.

The Palm Springs International Film Festival will screen 129 films from 70 countries at its 2022 event, including 32 premieres. ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ is scheduled to have its USA premiere on January 7.

The Film Awards will take place in-person on January 6 at the Palm Springs Convention Center in California with the film festival running through January 17.

The official website of the festival says - “Writer-director Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s electrifying morality tale was the first Bangladeshi film to play in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, and is now the country’s contender for the International Oscar. As Rehana, newcomer Badhon gives a spellbinding, star-making performance as an altruistic woman pushed to the brink.”

PSIFF is widely called as the first stop on the campaign trail for Oscars.

‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ has also made its entry into the race for the Oscars as Bangladesh’s official submission in the ‘Best International Feature Film Category’. Earlier, the film bagged the Jury Grand Prize and brought actress Badhon the Best Actress award at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia.

The film was also screened at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia on December 7th and 13th.
