The film ‘Jhora Palok,’ based on the life of eminent poet Jibananda Das, will be released in February 2022. Sayantan Mukherjee is directing the movie, while Jaya is playing the role of Labanya Das – the wife of Jibananda Das.
Mukherjee released a teaser of the film on his Facebook profile on Saturday, captioning the post with a poem written by Jibananda Das.
‘Jhora Palok’ follows the voice of poet Jibananda Das and attempts to depict his life through an imaginative visual representation of how he was attracted by poetry and explored his life on his own terms.
The film attempts to show how he achieves his position as a poet in the Bengali literary scene of the future, by interpreting his repertoire of works and his interactions with the so-called society of intellectuals.
The film ‘Jhora Palok’ was inspired by Jibanananda’s autobiographical novel ‘Malyaban’ .The ups and downs of his relationship with his wife Labanya Das was highlighted in that book.
Bratya Basu and Rahul Arunodaya Bandyopadhyay will be playing the different stages of Jibanananda Das in this film.
Besides, Devashankar Haldar will be portraying the role of poet Sajanikanta Das, Kaushik Sen will be seen as poet Buddhadev Basu and Supriya Dutt will be playing the role of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Mukherjee, the director of the film, has announced plans to release ‘Jhora Palok’ in Kolkata as well as in Bangladesh. “Bangladesh is involved in many aspects of Jibanananda Das’ life. This is why we will try to reach out to the people of Bangladesh with this film,” he added.
‘Jhora Palok’ will be screened at the Calcutta International Film Festival in January before its release in theatres.
