Noted actor Moutushi Biswas is making a comeback on big screen after six years with the film ‘Priyo Satyajit,’ directed by independent filmmaker Proshoon Rahmaan. She will be seen in the role of Aparajita, an emerging filmmaker.
Confirming the news to The Business Post, Moutushi said, “I chose this film after 6 years because I found it very unique and experimental. It’s not following the formula of a traditional film. The story of this film is not about love or thriller.
“That’s why I wanted to do this film, and I hope the audience will like our efforts.”
In the film, Ahmed Rubel will play the role of veteran producer Asif Mahmood.
The story of the film revolves around making a film about Satyajit Ray. In the film – Aparajita – an emerging filmmaker wants to make a documentary paying homage to the memory of Ray on his birthday.
She chose Asif Mahmood as the actor in the documentary, whose life was greatly influenced by Ray. After all the preparations, one morning they went out to shoot, to make a documentary.
About the character, Moutushi said, “Aparajita is an emerging docu-filmmaker who is greatly influenced by Satyajit Ray. She is the connection between Asif Mahmood (played by Ahmed Rubel) and Satyajit Ray. It is really great feeling to play a character like this.
“I always prepare myself for the character. Sometimes I tend to be over-prepared. In the lockdown, I used to read all the books about Satyajit Ray to know him better.”
Director of this film, Proshoon Rahman said, “There are direct and indirect influences of Satyajit Ray on the growth and development of many filmmakers in this subcontinent.
“Satyajit Ray is the inspiration for most of the independent filmmakers who have been interested in making films. So on his birthday, I wanted to make a full-length film titled ‘Priya Satyajit’ to pay tribute to him on my own.”
Recently, the filming of the Priyo Satyajit has been completed in two more places including the house of Satyajit Ray’s grandfather Upendrakishore Roychowdhury in Kishoreganj and a house in Old Dhaka.
Besides Moutushi and Ahmed Rubel, the film has an ensemble cast of Pankaj Majumder, Saeed Babu, Sangeeta Chowdhury, Labonno Chowdhury, Ehsanul Haque, Nusrat Jahan and Abir.
‘Priya Satyajit’ is being produced under the banner of Proshoon Rahmaan’s production house ‘ImationCreator’ and slated for release on Satyajit Ray’s upcoming birthday on May 2, 2022.
