Veteran actor and freedom fighter Sohel Rana was put on life support at a hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday with Covid-19 infection.

“He was taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Evercare Hospital in the morning after his condition deteriorated,” his brother actor Masum Parvez Rubel told The Business Post on Wednesday.

Sohel Rana was earlier placed on a ventilator at the coronary care unit (CCU). As his oxygen saturation level dropped further on the early hours of Wednesday, he was shifted from the CCU to the ICU. He has got his lungs nearly 50 per cent infected, said Rubel.

Earlier, on December 25, the actor was admitted to the hospital after his Covid-19 test report came out positive.

Masud Parvez Sohel Rana, better known as Sohel Rana, stepped onto the film industry by producing ‘Ora Egaro Jon’, the first full-length feature film based on the 1971 Liberation War, under the direction of Chashi Nazrul Islam in 1972.

In 1973, he shot to fame with the release of his debut film ‘Masud Rana’, based on a story of Qazi Anwar Hossain. The actor won the National Film Awards three times.

Sohel Rana also bagged the Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Film Awards 2019 as a recognition for his contribution to Bangla films.
