After the release of cop action-thriller ‘Mission Extreme’, actor Sudip Biswas Deep has hit headlines one more time by starring in HBO Original series ‘Invisible Stories’ which won the Best Drama award at the Singapore-based ‘The ContentAsia Awards’. Deessp has recently joined in another Bangladeshi film ‘Moyurakkhi’ to co-star with Eamin Haque Bobby under the direction of Rashid Polash.
Asked about how he was cast in ‘Moyurakkhi’, Deep told The Business Post, “I was supposed to do another project of Rashid Polash, but somehow it got delayed for the pandemic. Few weeks ago, he called me again and narrated to me the story of ‘Moyurakkhi’. I liked the storyline and the character which I am playing in it. I thought it will be a great miss if I don’t do the character. After the narration, I knew I want to do the film. That’s how I joined the film.”
“The character which I am playing has so many aspects that attracted me to do it. It’s not a linear character that has only positive or negative sides. It has many dimensions. That’s why I chose it. I was waiting for a good character and story for my first project in Bangladesh after the ‘Invisible Stories’. I think ‘Moyurakkhi’ is that project for me,” he added.
‘Moyurakkhi’ is a story of love and revenge where Bobby and Deep will be featured, marking it their first collaboration in a film. “I have seen her film ‘Khoj-The Search’ before. Other than that, I have met her a few times. She appreciated me for my works. I found her very cooperative and jolly-minded person.”
Deep started his career in theatre. He was a regular member of Prachyanat Theatre group. At Prachyanat, he performed in plays like ‘Tragedy Polashbari’, ‘Bonmanush’ and ‘Gondar’. Afterwards, he made his debut on TV with the drama ‘Satkhahon’, directed by Golam Sohorab Dodul.
Deep came into the limelight by acting in the HBO original series ‘Invisible Stories’ in which he essays the role of Bangladeshi labourer in Singapore. “It was a very pleasant memory of mine because I was looking for a breakthrough in my career that time,” he said recalling his audition and casting in the series.
Talking about ‘Mission Extreme’ which was released in early December last year, he said, “I have got huge response after acting in ‘Mission Extreme’. It was a bit unexpected for me because it was a multi-casting star-studded film. So, when people appreciate me despite not being the main character, it is a great feeling indeed. My character has impacted the audience. When I was shooting for ‘Mission Extreme’, I was a struggling actor. Getting this much response for my role is an overwhelming feeling for me.”
The emerging actor said that he is not eager to work on the small screen. “Honestly, I don’t want to act on the small screen because of the budget deficiency and actors don’t get the time to prepare for the character. I want to work on big-screen and OTT because the budget is big there and actors get the time to prepare themselves. There is a chance to analyse the character on the big screen and OTT. I want to work on those projects which have good script and storyline because the story and good content is the king of any successful project”.
Now the OTT platforms in Bangladesh are competing against the mainstream media. Many actors are concentrating more on OTT platforms. Asked whether Deep is thinking about joining the race, he said, “I want to work on OTT platforms if I get the good platform and script. To be honest, till now I haven’t got that many offers which can attract me. After the ‘Invisible Stories’, I haven’t worked on any Bangladeshi project. I am just looking forward to this New Year. Hopefully, I can work more.”
‘Moyurakkhi’ director Rashid Polash informed The Business Post that the film will go on floors on January 15.
