Singer Fahmida Nabi has recently received her enlistment as a composer in the Bangladesh Betar. Tuesday was her birthday. She celebrated it by exchanging greetings with her family, friends and fans in real life and by interacting on social media as well.

“I received my enlistment in December end. It was prepared before, but I could not go there to receive it. There are not many female composers in the country. I am all prepared to start some new songs as a composer,” she told The Business Post.

She says that she has some upcoming projects in her bucket at this moment.

“Meanwhile, I have worked on a project of 10 songs, sung by my students, with my composition and lyrics. Besides, I have worked as a composer for several other artistes. These will be coming out gradually,” she said.

Taking a dig at the recent scenarios of music and the inclination of the audience, Fahmida said, “People are now way more into fun and music, rather than the songs itself.  Perhaps, this period will continue this way, but I cannot involve myself in this. I will not ever relate to it. It’s my commitment”.

“There changed a lot which is tough to adjust all of a sudden. Now, people have switched to devices. Now views matter. And there is TikTok, where people count views. It cannot be a form of doing a song. It is very boring. Music is a matter of emotion. It’s a meaningful thing. It cannot be called funny stuff. People out there are seeking fun. If people seek only fun, it will not help make meaningful songs. It worries me,” she added.

Talking about the new generation of singers, Fahmida said, “Everyone is more towards the stage. Their progress is towards the stage, stage performance, not towards creating any song, any original song. They want to do such songs that they can take to the stage. This tendency only to rock the stage will not make any singer. End of the day, the audience is everything. No matter how much fun they make, end of the day, they want to hear the song which has meaningfulness”.

“If the young generation thinks about it and progress accordingly, it’s good, otherwise, they will suffer and fall into an identity crisis,” warned the singer.

“I think that seniors should make room for the juniors, it a personal strait – how will a person maintain his relations with others. During my childhood, I saw my father, who was a man of the music fraternity. He approached others on his own, tried to love others on his own. I am also trying to follow the suit and trying to love others from my side. I cannot define a relationship by only who is talking with me, and who isn’t. What can I do for others matters,” said Fahmida.
