‘Chhitmahal’, an onscreen adaptation of the lives of the people who lived in the former enclaves, is all set to release in theatres on January 14, following delays for the pandemic.
Directed by HR Habib, the film stars Mousumi Hamid, Jannatul Ferdous Piya and Arman Parvez Murad in major roles.
“We wanted to tell the story of the Chhitmahal residents through the film. Everyone in the film has done their work sincerely. I think the audience will love the story. Hopefully, they will not be disappointed,” Director HR Habib said in a press release.
“The release of the film faced delay due to the Corona pandemic,” he added.
According to the makers of the film, ‘Chhitmahal’ depicts the heart-rending sorrows and challenges of the former enclave dwellers and how their plight was blatantly ignored. During the exchange of the enclaves between Bangladesh and India in 2015, they also faced a dilemma while choosing their countries.
The film narrates the story of these dilemmas of people who were stuck between enclaves and faced existential crisis and didn’t know which country they belong to.
In ‘Chhitmahal’, Moushumi Hamid plays the role of a Hindu family housewife who wants to go back to her parents in Kolkata. But her in-laws want to stay in Bangladesh.
Mainly the story revolves around the life of a Hindu family and their struggles while living in an enclave.
‘Chhitmahal’ has its story, screenplay and dialogues written by director HR Habib. The film was mostly shot in an enclave of the northern district of Panchagarh.
Along with Mousumi, Piya and Murad, ‘Chhitmahal’ also stars Mirakkel famed comedian Sajal, Don Huq Shimul Khan, HR Habib, ABM Sohail Rashid, Ujjwal Kabir Himu and Anjali Sathi.
The film is produced by Common Home Etcher and distributed by Jaaz Multimedia.
