Dhallywood actor Mamnun Emon announced that he is running for the post of sports and cultural affairs from a panel headed by veteran actor Ilias Kanchan and actress Nipun in the upcoming elections to the Bangladesh Chalachchitra Shilpi Samity.
Emon, who was elected international affairs secretary at the association’s 2019 polls, made the disclosure on social media on Friday night.
“In the upcoming election of Chalachchitra Shilpi Samity, for the years 2022-24, I am contesting from the Ilias Kanchan-Nipun panel for the post of sports and cultural affairs,” Emon wrote on his Facebook profile sharing photos with Ilias Kanchan and Nipun.
Talking to The Business Post on Saturday, Emon said, “I took part in the polls before. I have decided to contest in the polls this time as well. I think the post I am contesting for has the scope to do many works”.
Actress Nipun told The Business Post that they have finalised the panel and will announce it at a press conference today.
The elections to the Bangladesh Chalachchitra Shilpi Samity are scheduled to be held on January 28.
On Saturday, Emon was shooting for Chayanika Chowdhury directed web film ‘Kagojer Bou’ that co-stars Pori Moni, DA Tayeb and Abul Hayat with him. Marking Emon’s first web film under Chayanika’s direction, who earlier collaborated on TV, ‘Kagojer Bou’ began filming in December last year.
Emon went through a tough time at the fag end of the year 2021 following a controversial phone conversation leak involving actress Mahiya Mahi and former state minister for information and broadcasting Murad Hassan that sparked a huge criticism. Terming the incident “unexpected”, Emon said, “It’s not like that I have committed any sin or have done any crime. Past is past. Now I have my full concentration on my film projects and the election”.
“A good number of my latest films will be coming out gradually this year. I am looking forward to do more quality films throughout this new year,” he told The Business Post.
Emon informed that one of his upcoming films, ‘Agamikal’ co-starring Zakia Bari Mamo and directed by Anjan Aich may release in March.
