Ilias-Nipun panel announced

Veteran Dhallywood actor Ilias Kanchan and actress Nipun Akter are leading a panel to contest the upcoming elections to Bangladesh Chalachhtra Shilpi Samity.

In the elections scheduled for January 28, Ilias will contest for president of the film artistes’ association while Nipun will battle for general secretary’s post.

They announcement their candidatures at a press briefing held at the Nirapad Sarak Chai office in the capital’s Kakrail on Sunday.

In this year’s polls, another rival panel will be led by outgoing president of the platform, actor Misha Sawdagar and, general secretary, actor Zayed Khan. Other members of the panel are yet to be disclosed. However, veteran actress Sucharita and superstar Mousumi are expected to join them.

Actor Pirzada Harun will act as the election commissioner during this year’s polls. He will be accompanied by two members BH Nishan and Bazlur Rashed Chowdhury. Filmmaker Sohanur Rahman Sohan will act as the chairman of the appeal board while Mohammad Hossain Jaimy and Mohammad Hossain will be the members of the board.

Earlier, Ekushey Award winning actor Ilias Kanchan served as the general secretary at the Shilpi Samity in 1989. During the 16th edition of Shilpi Samity polls in 2019, he acted as the election commission chief.

However, Misha Sawdagar and Zayed Khan won the Shilpi Samity elections in 2019 as their second consecutive term for the same posts. Misha defeated independent candidate actress Moushumi to become the president of the artistes’ association in the biennial polls.
