‘Lucky to see my biography published in my lifetime’

Celebrated singer Kumar Bishwajit is gearing up for publishing a biographical volume, which is yet to be titled, during the Amar Ekushey Book Fair this year. Singer-songwriter Joy Shahriar is compiling the book.

The volume will narrate the life experiences of Bishwajit in detail from his early childhood to the completion of four decades in music.

Bishwajit opened up about the biographical work in a conversation with The Business Post on Sunday.

“I am not into writing. It’s beyond my track. I don’t have any other habit beyond music. Many others have expressed their willingness earlier to write such a book on me. Finally, Joy Shahriar has done it. I had my trust in him. I like his writing and point of view. It took around three months to research how we will arrange the details and how we will narrate everything,” said Bishwajit.

“Yes, I am very lucky to have shared everything which got recorded while I am still alive. I am grateful to Joy,” the National Film Award-winning musician Bishwajit added.

He said that title of the book is yet to be finalised. “It will be disclosed on January 15. The book will be published during the Ekushey Book Fair this year,” he said.

Sharing his experience on compiling the book, Joy Shahriar told The Business Post, “Still, we have not any such biography on the life of any vocalists to whom we grew up listening in our country. This kind of work has not been done here in many years. Still, there is no such activity based on the life of Ayub Bachchu or Azam Khan. In that aspect, I felt the urge to do such a work.”

“Finally, I got that opportunity. Kumar Bishwajit is one of my favourite personalities among the living legends. I am lucky that he has trust in me,” added Joy.

“I started working on the piece June 6 last year and handed over the manuscript to Kumar Bishwajit on Saturday night. It took around seven months to complete the piece. The experience was really awesome. Kumar Bishwajit cooperated with me in a great way with all details. He also provided me with all the photographs it required”.

Pre-order for the book will be taken from January 15 and the book will be available at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair this year from the first day, Joy informed.

The book will be published by Aajob Prakash.
