An exclusive group art exhibition, titled ‘Epic 1971’, featuring artworks by eight contemporary & modern artists from Bangladesh and India, began on Friday at Gallery Kaya in Dhaka’s Uttara area to celebrate Bangladesh’s 50 years of independence.
The inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was graced by Mr Mofidul Hoque, Trustee of the Bangladesh Liberation War Museum, and Mr Matiur Rahman, Editor of The Daily Prothom Alo, along with other guests.
‘Epic 1971’ features painting maestros named Somnath Hore, Shahabuddin Ahmed, Aditya Basak, Jamal Ahmed, Ranjit Das, Chandra Bhattacharjee, Atin Basak, and Aloptogin Tushar.
A selection of 31 artworks, which were done between 1969 to 2021 in acrylic, oil, ink, etching, synthetic, tempera, serigraph, lithograph, and mixed media on paper and canvas, are being exhibited.
The exhibition intends to provide today’s youth with a visually rich and thematic viewpoint of 1971 so that they may experience the persecution and repression that resulted in a glorious victory, allowing them to relate emotionally to the martyrs’ battles.
Sponsored by ADN Group, the exhibition is accessible to all till January 29, from 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM.
