Curtain falls on nat’l dance festival

The three-day national dance festival ended Saturday at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

The academy arranged the festival as part of its initiative titled ‘Dance Against Corona’ aiming to boost social harmony and promote diverse and original forms of dance.

Around 1,000 dancers under 75 dance troupes from around the country performed in the festival at the academy’s National Theatre Hall Auditorium. The festival is said to be the first-ever such large festival of dance in the country.

The festival was broadcasted live through Shilpakala’s official Facebook page from the venue from the inaugural day on January 20. Of the 75 participating troupes, some were comprised of 10 dance artists each while some others have 20-30 performers in each troupe.

Of the participating troupes, 51 groups were from Dhaka and the remains from Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Khagrachhari, Barishal, Rajshahi, Narayanganj, Gaibandha, Tangail, Naogaon, Bogura, Rangamati, Khulna, Chattogram and Satkhira.

On the concluding day of the festival on Saturday, 27 dance troupes performed at the festival. They are—Parampara Nrityalay, Amra Ka Jon Shilpee Goshthee, Colors of ill, Shoilee Shilpacharcha Niketan, Jinia Nityakala Academy, Aradhana, Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts, Shawpnabikash Kalakendra, Parashmani Kala Kendra, Shadhona-a centre for Advancement of Southasian Culture, Antar Nritya Niketan, Rythmos, Nrityajon, Nandanik Nritya Sangathan, Swattik Gurukul Nrityavumi, Katthyakia-The Centre of Arts, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Nrityadal, Chintak Shangskritik Academy, Bahar, Nachghor, Academy of Fine Arts-Mymensingh, Artistri, Nupur Niccon Dance Academy Dhaka, Rhythm Dance Group, Dibbo Sangskritik Sangathan, CNI Glow Dance Troupe and Tapasya by Fifa Chakma.

A total of 15 dance troupes performed on the first day of the festival on Thursday and 22 troupes performed on the second day.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy said it has long been working to create 75 new and original forms of dance and also facilitate working opportunity for dance artistes and choreographers in the country.
