Prachynat’s ‘Pulsirat’ to be staged at Shilpakala today

Theatre troupe Prachynat will stage its 35th production ‘Pulsirat’, an adaptation of Palestinian author Ghassan Kanafani’s novella ‘Men in the Sun’, at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today.

The drama will be staged at the academy’s Experimental Theatre Hall at 7:00pm abiding by health rules to ensure safety against Covid-19, said the organisers.

The adaptation is translated by Masumul Alam and dramatised by Monirul Islam Rubel under the direction of Kazi Towfiqul Islam Emon.

Originally published in 1962, Ghassan Kanafani’s ‘Men in the Sun’ is set in Iraq and Kuwait in 1958. The story is about three Palestinian refugees of different generations travelling from the refugee camps in Iraq to Kuwait where they hope to find work as labourers in the oil boom. The novella is regarded as a key fictional text in modern Middle Eastern writing.

‘Men in the Sun’ has characters named Abu Qais, Assad, Marwan and Abul Khaizuran.

Azad Abul Kalam, Shahriar Sajeeb, Monirul Islam Rubel, Saiful Islam Journal and Chetona Rahman Bhasha are among the performers in the drama ‘Pulsirat’.

The set of the drama is designed by Shahinur Rahman. Its music is planned by Neel Kamrul while the light setting is done by Babar Khadem.
