Cricket song has to stir up players, fans: Kishore

Singer-composer Kishore Das has again tried his hands for a cricket song two years after he made the official theme song of the Rajshahi Royals team in the Bangladesh Premier League. This time, he has created the official anthem of the Minister Dhaka squad to motivate its players and make its fans groove during the ongoing edition of the domestic T20 league.

In a conversation with The Business Post on Wednesday, Kishore opened up about creating a cricket song, his love for the game and his friendship with national team player Rubel Hossain.

For the official theme song of Minister Dhaka which begins with lyrics as “Joyer Jonno Lorbe Ebar Minister Dhaka, Chhokka Char-e Barebare Ghurbe Ran-er Chaka”, Kishore teamed up with lyricist Robiul Islam Jibon. With the words penned by Jibon, the song has its composition, music and voice done by Kishore.

Kishore said, “I and Jibon both are cricket lovers. He told me that he has received an offer for a theme song for the Dhaka team in BPL. I shared with him that my friend cricketer Rubel Hossain is playing for Dhaka this year. It also has Mashrafe Bin Mortaza who is one of my favourites. Their another player Tamim Iqbal is from my area Chattogram. I got very excited that if I make a song for this team, it will make me feel good.”

“Then Jibon sent me the lyrics and asked me to make the song in just one day. I just wondered thinking about the given time but Jibon said it is possible by only you within a day. Then we sat together and make a scratch for the song. It was then sent to the authorities and they liked it very much. Then we finalised it. It was done in a single day,” added the singer.

“It is somewhat tough to execute this type of work in just one or two days but I enjoy accepting the challenge when it is a liked project. The lyrics of this song is so nice that it has been memorised automatically,” he said.

The musician also shared his experience of recording music for the game of cricket. “As it’s a theme song and it gets played on the field, it must have an inspirational vibe so that people enjoy listening to it. It must have hope. The most important thing is this type of song requires a chorus line to stir up the players. When listening to such a song, it has to make the audience feel that a festival is happening. The new song is made keeping all these enabled,” he said.

Kishore also talked about his friendship with paceman Rubel Hossain. “I and Rubel are friends for a long time. He himself also sings songs from his passion. Sometimes we have adda in the studio. He is a very good person. Being an immense fan of Bachchu Bhai (Ayub Bachchu), he asked me to sing Bachchu Bhai’s songs many times during our adda. Music is always at the heart of our adda,” said Kishore.

“I play cricket since my childhood. I played school cricket for two to three years. My passion for cricket is always on. During the match days of the Bangladesh team, no matter what, I always keep an eye on the game. Overall, I am a cricket fan,” he said.

Regarding his preferred teams in this season of BPL, he said, “As I am from Chattogram, my good wishes are there for the squad Chattogram in BPL Challengers. And as I have made the theme song for Minister Dhaka, I want Dhaka to win as well”.

Kishore also disclosed his upcoming music projects. “Kumar Bishwajit Sir has composed a song for me with its words penned by Liton Adhikary Rintu. We will go for its shoot very soon. Meanwhile, I have worked on another project titled ‘Oisshorjo’ by Asif Iqbal with his words involving the living legends of Bangladesh like Syed Abdul Hadi, Kumar Bishwajit, Bappa Mazumder, Samina Chowdhury, Fahmida Nabi, Agoon Khan and Shafin Ahmed,” he informed.
