‘Bir Nari Pahariya’ goes on air

A special single-episode drama, based on the life of war heroine Chendau Marma from Khagrachhari, is set to air on Bangladesh Television tonight. Written by Nasrin Mustafa and produced by Mahfuza Akter, the drama titled ‘Bir Nari Pahariya’ will be aired at 9pm.

The ensemble cast of the drama includes Nushoilla Marma, Doyu Marma, Paban Das, Chimapru Marma, Safoching Marma, Uthaising Marma, Sathoaching, Kyasamang, Rafiqul Islam, Munmun Khan, Chaity Mallik, Mohiuddin Hossain, Anjan Baroi, Mehedi Hasan Shuvo, and Farida Yasmin.

According to the makers of the drama, the plot of ‘Bir Nari Pahariya’ revolves around a group of three adventurous youth travelling to a hill village. After going there, they meet Khui Mong Pru, an elderly resident of the area through whom they come to know about the sacrifice of war heroine Chendau Marma during the 1971 Liberation War.

When the Pakistani soldiers came to the village during the war, the chairman of that locality handed over Chendau Marma to them. Sacrificing herself, Chendau made the Pakistani forces agree that they will not capture any other woman from the village. After the end of the war, Chendau finds her life turned upside down as her relatives and the community ostracizes her. She becomes a social outcast and starts living a lonely life.
