Actors Ahsan Habib Nasim and Rawnak Hasan have been elected president and general secretary respectively of the platform of TV artistes – Actors’ Equity Bangladesh (Obhinoy Shilpi Sangha) – for the 2022-2025 term.
Nasim, who served as the general secretary of the platform for the last two consecutive terms, bagged 496 votes while his rival Sahadat Hossain Nipu got 88 votes. Rawnak received 421 votes to defeat Alamgir Kabir Tutul, who secured 163 votes.
The balloting took place at the National Music, Dance and Recitation Centre of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy from 9:30am to 7:30pm on Friday with actor Khairul Alam Sabuj as the chief election commissioner. Masum Aziz and Naresh Bhuiyan acted as the election commissioners. The polls results were announced at the academy at 10pm.
Actors Anisur Rahman Milon, Selim Mahbub and Iqbal Babu have been elected vice-presidents with 398, 397 and 374 votes, respectively.
Naznin Hasan Chumki and Jamil Hossain, who received 500 and 378 votes respectively, have become the new joint general secretaries of the platform.
Other successful candidates are—Saju Khadem (organising secretary, 325 votes), Sheikh Merajul Islam (office secretary, 520 votes), Rashed Mamunur Rahman Opu (event secretary, 445 votes), Urmila Srabanti Kar (law and welfare secretary, 463 votes), Pran Roy (publicity and publication secretary, 358 votes) and Sujat Shimul (ICT secretary, 315 votes).
A total of 48 candidates contested for various posts in this year’s polls while the total number voters were 748. Of them, 642 votes were cast in the polls, of which 58 were cancelled for various reasons.
