‘Gor’, ‘Bishwasundari’ fetch most awards

‘Gor’, ‘Bishwasundari’ fetch most awards

The government-funded film ‘Gor’, directed by Gazi Rakayet, won awards in ten categories, while Chayanika Chowdhury’s film ‘Bishwasundari’ won accolades in eight categories in the National Film Awards 2020.

Anwara Begum and Raisul Islam Asad were jointly named for the lifetime achievement award for their incredible contribution to the Bangladeshi film industry.

The winners of the National Film Awards 2020 were revealed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday.

The awards in 27 categories were notified through a gazette.

‘Gor’ and ‘Bishwasundari’ shared the best film award.

The best director award was won by Gazi Rakayet for his critically acclaimed film ‘Gor’.

Rakayet also played the main character Shirja Mia in the film. The film depicts the story of a gravedigger who travels from village to village gathering information about deaths.

He intends to dig one hundred graves, believing that this is the only way for him to be saved in the afterlife and get reunited with his family members in heaven.

‘Gor’, The Grave, Bangladesh’s first English-language film, was released commercially in Hollywood on May 14, according to the director. The film is a government-funded project with the Bangla title ‘Gor.’ It was initially released in both English and Bangla in December 2020.

On the other hand, ‘Bishwasundari’ is the directorial debut of popular small-screen director Chayanika Chowdhury. It is a story about humanity, a story of the triumph of life. Siam Ahmed and Pori Moni played the lead roles in the film.

The story revolves around Shadhin (Siam Ahmed) and his mother Fatema Ferdousi (Champa). Because of a disastrous past relationship with ex-Miss Bangladesh Ema (Heera), Shadhin has decided not to marry any girl, especially a beautiful girl. But when Siam met Pori, he fell in love and the story of the film takes a different turn.

Siam Ahmed has also bagged the best actor award for his performance in ‘Bishwashundari’, while Deepanwita Martin won the best actress award for her performance in ‘Gor’.

The best supporting actor award went to Fazlur Rahman Babu for ‘Bishwasundari’ while the best supporting actress award was bagged by Aparna Ghose for ‘Gondi’.

‘Aarong’, directed by Jannatul Ferdaus, a short film that received a government grant, was named best the short film.

The best documentary film award went to ‘Bangabandhur Rajnaitik Jiban o Bangladesh-er Abhyuday’ directed by Syed Ashique Rahman.

Misha Sawdagor was awarded the best negative role for ‘Bir’.

The best child actor award went to Mugdhota Morshed for ‘Gondi’ and Mohammad Shahadat Hasan Badhon won the special award in the child actor category for ‘Aarong’.

Belal Khan won the best music director award for ‘Hridoy Jurey’.

Late Mohammad Sahidur Rahman won the best dance director award for ‘Bishwasundari.

Mohammad Mahmud Imran received the award for the best male singer for his song ‘Tui Ki Amar Hobi Re’ in the film ‘Bishwasundari’.

Dilshad Nahar Kona and Somnur Monir Konal shared the award for the best female singer for their songs ‘Tui Ki Amar Hobi Re’ from ‘Bishwasundari’ and ‘Bhalobasar Manush Tumi’ from ‘Bir’. Kabir Bakul won the award for best lyricist for his song ‘Tui Ki Amar Hobi Re’.

Gazi Rakayet won the award for best story writer and screenplay for his film ‘Gor’.

Fakhrul Arefeen Khan won the award for best dialogue for the film ‘Gor’. Mohammad Shariful Islam and Uttam Kumar Guha won the award for best editor and best art director respectively for the same film.

The best cinematographer, the best sound director award, the best costume designer, teh best makeup artiste awards were also bagged by ‘Gor’.

Uttam Kumar Guha won the award for the best art director for ‘Gor’.
