Makers reveal first look of ‘Putulnacher Itikatha’

The makers of the film ‘Putulnacher Itikatha’, based on the seminal novel of the same name by Manik Bandopadhay, has revealed the first look of Jaya Ahsan, Abir Chatterjee, Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Ananya Chatterjee.

Jaya will be playing the role of Kusum while Parambrata and Abir will be playing the roles of Shashi and Kumud respectively.

The film will be directed by West Bengal filmmaker Suman Mukhopadhyay.

Sharing the shooting pictures of the film on Facebook Suman wrote, “My eighth feature film ‘Putulnacher Itikatha’ starts today. Based on Manik Bandyopadhyay’s seminal novel. Thanks to all who made it possible.”

The shooting of the film has started on February 12. Jaya has started the shooting on February 14.

The film depicts the hypocrisy and complication of human life. The narrative is set in a secluded town in Bengal soon before WWII, and it follows a doctor’s dilemma as a forlorn hero in search of intellectual romance.

Director Suman Mukhopadhyay said, “Two things were very important for this film. That is skilled actors and a big budget. Besides selecting good actors, the marketing aspect of the film has to be kept in mind now. Abir, Jaya, Param will be able to do that balance. The shooting schedule of this film is 25 days, which is not seen in Bengali films now.”

“In this film, I have tried to put emphasis on the chemistry of the characters and also the character Shashi. I think Shashi is a very powerful character,” he added.

The story of the film revolves around the main character doctor Shashi who is very empathetic towards the lower class of people in society. The film centres on the complexities of human relationships. The film will be set in the backdrop of the 1930s and 1940s.

Suman said, “We have seen the intellectual failure in the last century. As a result, we now see the rise of this terrible religious frenzy and dictatorship. Intellectual people didn’t say anything against the injustice and religious frenzy. The character of Shashi is the symbol of this intellectual failure to me.”

Two other important characters in the film will be played by Dhritiman Chatterjee and Ananya Chatterjee. Prabuddha Banerjee will be doing the background music.

Under the banner of Kaleidoscope, Samiran Das will produce the film. Kaleidoscope has already created a name for itself in the film business with full-length features such as ‘Kalam Risinvälivan’ (now in production) and a short film called ‘Five’.

Pawan Kanoda is the co-producer of the film.
