10th Liberation Doc fest to begin March 11

The 10th edition of the Liberation Docfest Bangladesh will begin on the premises of the Liberation War Museum in the capital’s Agargaon area on March 11.

Due to the pandemic situation, the five-day festival of documentaries will be held following a hybrid format. Audiences will be able to watch a film just for Tk 20. Tickets can be purchased online. In addition, the films will be showed on the internet as well. Young filmmakers, students have the opportunity to watch the films through online accreditation.

Among the 2100 submissions from all across the world, a total of 140 films has been selected for screening in the festival.

Every day, four films will be screened in the museum’s auditorium, with social distancing restrictions in place. The films selected in this festival will compete in both national and international competitions.

The films screened in the national category will be judged by filmmaker Shaheen Dill-Riaz Ahmed, artist and art critic Mustafa Zaman, and actress Bonna Mirza.

In addition, Pakistani filmmaker Ammar Aziz, New Zealand’s Alex Lee, and an English film programme producer Mita Suri will judge the films in the international category.

The winners of the competitions in both national and international categories will be announced on the concluding day of the festival on March 15.

The best Bangladeshi film will receive Tk 1,00,000 in prize money, while the best international film will receive $ 1,000.

Liberation Docfest Bangladesh is a festival dedicated to documentary cinema, seeking to highlight the struggle for Liberation and Human Rights of people in various parts of the world and its contemporary significance. It seeks to uphold new forms of viewing the human suffering and struggle for justice in global perspective.
