The first glimpse of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ has gone viral on social media. Along with the posters, the filmmakers revealed the release date as well. The film will release in theatres on September 30, reports Variety.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is dressed in a brown silk gown with gold jewelry. Her hair is pulled back and tucked into a side bun. The former Miss World is said to be portraying two roles in the film, Nandini and Mandakini Devi. AR Rahman composed the soundtrack for the film, and Ravi Varman shot the photography.
Lyca Productions posted on Instagram, “The Golden Era comes to the big screens on Sept 30th!”
This is Aishwarya Rai’s fourth collaboration with Mani Ratnam. In 1997, she made her acting debut in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Iruvar,’ and went on to star in ‘Guru’ (2007) and ‘Raavan,’(2010) among other films.
The epic historical fiction is based on the same-named work by famous Tamil writer Kalki Krishnamurthy, published in 1955. B Jeyamohan wrote the dialogues for the film, which is set in the Chola Dynasty.
Aishwarya Rai went to Instagram in September of last year to announce the completion of the first phase of the film’s shot. After pandemic restrictions were lifted, Aishwarya shot an elaborate song for the film in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. Over 400 junior artists were involved in the making of the song.
‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is one of the most anticipated films of the year due to its big scale, cast and crew, and plot.
Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Jayaram, and Prakash Raj are among the notable south Indian actors who appear in the film.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen on the big screen in Atul Manjrekar’s ‘Fanney Khan.’ Baby Singh, a well-known singer, was played by the actress.
