After the success of ‘Monpura’ and ‘Swapnajal’, Gias Uddin Selim has geared up for his next dream project titled ‘Kajol Rekha’.
Based on the story of Kajol Rekha pala of Mymensingh Gitika, the fantasy film will feature Mondira Chakrabarty, Shariful Razz and Rafiath Rashid Mithila in the lead roles.
About the film, Gias Uddin Selim told The Business Post, “This is a 400-years-old story. Everyone has heard of the story of Kajol Rekha who was forced to marry to an almost dead person at the age of 9. The film will revolve around the story of Kajol Rekha. I have also tried to portray the architecture, condition of the society, culture and lifestyle of the people of that era. That’s why this is the film of a big budget. To make a set reflecting the 400-year-old culture is the most challenging part I would say.”
“At present 40 people of Garo and Hajong communities are working hard to make our set. Our production designer Saiful Haque has been doing research on Bengali art for a long time. He also has a book titled ‘Pundranagar to Sher-e-Bangla’. So, I am very hopeful about the production,” he added.
Kajol Rekha delves into the Bengali folklore of 400 years old when Bengal was affluent.
The shooting of film will begin from the first week of April at Durgapur in Netrokona.
Mondira Chakrabarty will play the role of Kajol Rekha in the film. Through this film, she will make a debut on the silver screen.
She said, “I have watched Gias Uddin Selim’s ‘Monpura’ when I was a child. Since then, I have wanted to work on his film. Now, finally it is happening. I am excited as well as very nervous too. It is a 400-year-old folklore. I hope I can portray the character perfectly.”
Mithila will play the role of ‘Konkon Dashi’ in the film. She said, “I am very excited and curious. I will portray a negative character which I think is challenging.”
Produced by Bangal Cinema, the film has received government grant. The film also stars Sahana Rahman Sumi, Sadia Ayman, Azad Abul Kalam, Iresh Zaker, Khairul Bashar, Rahmat Ali, Gaoshul Alam Shaon, among others.
