Gangubai Kathiawadi’, Alia Bhatt’s film, is unstoppable at the box office. The film’s box office performance has been consistent since its release on February 25. After a week in theaters, the film surpassed the Rs 100 crore milestone at the global box office on Friday, reports The Indian Express.
The film has grossed 108.3 crores globally as of Friday, March 4th. The film is now predicted to do even better as pandemic restrictions have been lifted and state administrations in Maharashtra and New Delhi have permitted 100% occupancy in theaters.
Despite launching on a non-festival weekend, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ grossed Rs 68.93 crore in its first week.
Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently basking in the success of his latest release, Gangubai Kathiawadi. The filmmaker also feels people might forget him after 50 years, but his work will live forever in their memory.
The production house also released a special trailer of the movie to thank the audiences. Applauding Gangubai Kathiawadi’s performance at the box office, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the film’s weekly performance report card. He tweeted, “WEEK 1 BIZ: TOP 3 FILMS [post pandemic times]… 1. #Sooryavanshi: 120.66 cr #Diwali 2. #83TheFilm: 071.87 cr [Day 6 and 7 without #Delhi biz] #Christmas 3. #GangubaiKathiawadi: 68.93 cr #NonHoliday Note: Nett BOC. #Hindi films. #India biz.”
The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, and Jhund, starring Amitabh Bachchan, both released yesterday, thus Gangubai Kathiawadi’s second week might be very crucial.
Bhansali has returned to the big screen after four years with ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. The film revolves around Gangubai, played by Alia Bhatt, who is forced into prostitution and becomes madam of a brothel in Kamathipua, the red-light district of Mumbai. Ajay Devgn, Seema Pahwa, Shantanu Maheshwari, and Vijay Raaz are among the cast members.
