Kaushik will bring the story of ‘Kharij’ in his new film ‘Palan’ in the context of 2022. The characters will remain the same as it was in ‘Kharij’. He is not even changing the names of the characters. The story will change a bit to keep pace with the context of this era.
Legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen’s film ‘Kharij’ was released in 1982. The film inspired director Kaushik Ganguly to make a movie based on the plot of ‘kharij’. With that inspiration, Kaushik Ganguly is going to give a look of new era film to the movie ‘Kharij’ in his new film ‘Palan’. ‘Palan’ is to celebrate Mrinal Sen’s birth centenary next year.
Kaushik said, “I had the privilege and honour to meet Mrinal da on a few occasions. I feel extremely fortunate that I could hold his hands too. Not just me, he knew my family too. He had watched my films and telefilms and shared his feedback. Those suggestions will remain with me forever. He was one of the finest directors of our country and his ideas and outlook towards cinema were marvellous. Owing to his youthfulness, we all used to call him Mrinal da. One of his films titled Kharij (1982) inspired me to make ‘Palan’ and it will be my tribute to the stalwart that he was. I was speechless after watching Kharij — I could relate so much to that film. Now, I feel blessed that I have got an opportunity to make a film based on a film that opened doors for me. I’m confident that I will be able to do justice to Palan.”
