Every day is a day to celebrate womanhood. Celebrities like actress, singers interpret International Women’s Day, which was observed on March 8, differently. Ekushey Padak and National Film Award winning actress, two prominent signers Farida Parveen and Aditi Mohsin believe a single day can’t do justice to women’s glory. Mehazabien Chowdhury’s opinion is slightly different.
“Now the girls have moved forward. They are working in many challenging professions, but there is still a gap. So the girls who work on the farms in the villages have yet to get freedom,” she said.
“We have to be more liberal and need to work hard for women’s emancipation,” she added.
Prominent signers Farida Parveen and Aditi Mohsin echoed the same.
“So many days are observed these days, but those are not fully recognised by all. And we hardly can serve the purpose of the day. It is women for whom the entire humanity exists. So, as long as the world exists, we have to respect women properly,” said Farida Parveen.
The folk music icon also believes that women’s development is not happening as much as it should have. “Discrimination against women still exists in today’s world and this discrimination exists in every sector.
While talking about the level of awareness people have these days, Farida Parveen recited some lines of Lalon song ‘Jaat gelo’. “Satya kaje keu noy raji sotto kaje keo noy raji sobai dekhi ta na na na... (No one agrees with the truth/ No one agrees with the truth/ I see everything, ta, na, na, na ...). These lines simply reflect the present situation of our country. We all talk about women’s development, but when it actually comes to acknowledging the truth and giving proper recognition, nobody is interested to do so,” she said.
Ekushey Padak and National Film Award-winning actress Dilara Zaman said, “In our time, we had faced many obstacles. My father and my husband were very liberal. So, I got it so far today. But there are many girls who have talents, but they have not been able to advance due to social constraints.”
Until now, girls have been neglected a lot. Especially when a girl wants to involve her in the media or cultural arena, the girl still faces a lot of harsh words, she said.
Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury’s opinion is slightly different. “Many might say that celebrating Women’s Day is not necessary. But I think there needs to be a celebration of everything. I think Women’s Day should be celebrated every year and every year it should be more elegant than the previous year. In fact, women should encourage themselves. I think safety is not the main condition for women to move forward. I can have children. I have a lot in my hands. I think the whole nation is in my hands. If women keep this belief is within themselves, then they will go a long way.”
Rabindra Sangeet singer Aditi Mohsin was also of the same view. “Women’s day is a worldwide celebrated occasion, but I don’t believe in celebrating any particular day to acknowledge women’s contribution. When a society can give equal respect to women that day will be the ultimate success of women’s day. We have to work for ensuring equal space for women not just in terms of rights, but also in terms of respect, honour. If we will be able to do this only then women’s day will be successful in a true sense,” she said.
“Our society has changed. Now women are working on every walk and they are doing very well. If I talk about the media industry, women have made a strong position there. Yet there remain some problems. This needs to be changed. For strongly establishing women’s rights, we have to work very hard and have to go a long way as well,” she added.
Aditi Mohsin will be taking part in a programme of agricultural ministry on March 9.
