Shawn Levy, the director of “Free Guy” and “The Adam Project,” will collaborate with Ryan Reynolds for “Deadpool 3.” Reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote both “Deadpool” and “Deadpool 2”, will script the third film based on Rob Liefeld’s “X-Men” comic book.
The Emmy-winning writers of “Bobs Burgers,” Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux, had been previously selected to write the script of “Deadpool 3,” but Reese and Wernick will instead continue for the third film.
Ryan Reynolds on March 12 tweeted, “The third film in my Shawn Levy trilogy will be a tad more stabby.” There he also tagged Shawn Levy.
Apart from Reynolds, no other cast members for “Deadpool 3” have been confirmed yet.
The Deadpool films are the highest-grossing X-Men films of all time, with the first picture grossing $783.1 million worldwide and the sequel reaching $785.8 million.
The first two films, which released on 2016 and 2018, respectively, were released by ‘20th Century Fox’ before ‘Disney’ acquired that studio. This will be the first Deadpool film following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. The news comes on the heels of Disney announcing it would move its Netflix series to Disney+. Those shows include Daredevil and Punisher, which, along with Deadpool, are the most mature Marvel content in the Disney fold. The first two Deadpool films are currently not available on Disney+, and there was concern at the time that Marvel might not continue the R-rated franchise considering Disney’s longstanding reputation for family-friendly fare. Then-CEO Bob Iger assuaged those fears by saying Deadpool could remain R-rated.
