‘Chhutir Ghanta’ director takes eternal leave

‘Chhutir Ghanta’-famed legendary film director Azizur Rahman passed away in the Canadian city of Toronto on Monday night.

He breathed his last around 11:30pm on March 14, 2022 (Bangladesh time), at the age of 82.

Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association president Sohanur Rahman Sohan confirmed the news quoting Azizur’s daughter Alia Rahman Bindi, “Azizur Rahman died in Toronto at 11:30pm on Monday, Bangladesh time.”

“Azizur Rahman was suffering from old-age complications for a long time and he was also having breathing problems,” said Sohan.

His interest in the arts began at an early age. Azizur started working in the film arena as an assistant to director Ehtesham in 1958 for the film ‘Ei Desh Tomar Amar’. In 1967, he made his debut as a director with the film ‘Saiful Mulk Badiuzzaman’.

In his long career in the tinsel town, Azizur directed over 54 films. In 1980 he came up with his most remarkable work ‘Chhutir Ghanta’. ‘Ashikkhita’, ‘Matir Ghar’, ‘Janata Express’, ‘Sampanwala’, ‘Daktar Bari’, ‘Garmil’, and ‘Samadhan’ are some most popular works of the legendary director.

Born on October 10, 1939, Azizur was living in Canada for many years.
