The much-awaited film on Bangabandhu’s life directed by veteran Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal finally got its title ‘Mujib – The Making of A Nation’ in English and ‘Mujib – Ekti Jatir Rupakar’ in Bangla.
The makers, cast and crew of the movie revealed the name of the movie and its poster at a press meet at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation on Thursday.
Arifin Shuvo, who played the title role in the film, and its other cast and crew were present at the event along with BFDC Managing Director Nuzhat Yasmin.
The shooting of the Indian part of the biopic began in Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari at Goregaon of Mumbai in January this year after a delay for the Covid-19 pandemic. In February, Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud visited the film sets.
The Bangladesh part of the movie was shot in November last year.
The film is now on post-production.
Move to make the biopic was announced during the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
Atul Tiwari and Shama Zaidi have co-written its screenplay.
Actress Nusraat Faria, plays the role of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Elina Shammi portrays the role of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the movie.
Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Prarthana Fardin Dighi, Jannatul Sumaiya, Gazi Rakayet, Tauquir Ahmed, Dilara Zaman, Siam Ahmed, Misha Sawdagar, Sayem Samad, Raisul Islam Asad, Shahidul Alam Sacchu and Khairul Alam Sabuj are among the other cast.
In the highly-anticipated film, Tisha and Dighi are portraying the elder and younger versions of Bangabandhu’s wife Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib (Renu) respectively. Faria will be seen as Sheikh Hasina in her early youth while Jannat Sumaiya in the elder version.
Produced under the Audio-Visual Co-Production Agreement between India and Bangladesh, the film is expected to be released in 2022.
