IFFK begins with ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’

The 26th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala began with the screening of Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ at Thiruvananthapuram in India.

The film was screened at the inaugural ceremony of the festival on March 18 and was appreciated by all.

The lead actress of ‘Rehana’, Azmeri Haque Badhon was present at the inaugural ceremony.

The festival’s Facebook page IFFK Official posted some photos of Badhon at the inaugural ceremony and wrote, “Flawless! Azmeri Haque, the lead actor of the opening film #Rehana awestruck by the reception at IFFK. Rehana, which was the Opening Film of the 26th edition, is the first-ever official selection film from Bangladesh to be shown in the Un Certain Regard section of the Festival de Cannes. Directed by Abdullah Mohammad Saad, Rehana takes a hard look at the issues faced by women who challenge entrenched power structures. The film will be screened on 21 March, 08:45 PM, Tagore Theatre, and on 23 March, 03:15 PM, Ajanta Theatre.”

The festival will continue till March 25. The film will be screened again at the festival at Tagore Theatre at 8:45pm on March 21 and at Ajanta Theatre at 3:15 pm on March 23.

Bandhan has played the lead role in the film as Rehana Maryam Noor who is an assistant professor in a medical college. After being shown at the Cannes Film Festival in July last year, the film was highly praised in the international media. Since then the movie has been on the hype.

After appearing at the Cannes Film Festival, Rehana has been shown on many international film festivals, including the Melbourne Film Festival, BFI London International Film Festival, Hong Kong Asia Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, and Sydney International Film Festival.
