Param Satyer Hridayangam underway at Abinta Gallery

Oriental Painting Study Group’s ninth exhibition titled Param Satyer Hridayangam (Realising Divine Harmony) is taking place at the Abinta Gallery of fine arts in Dhaka from March 12.

The exhibition features a wide range of works by 54 Bangladeshi artists. The best artworks for display were picked by a selection committee based on the principles and characteristics of oriental art, and a jury selected the best three paintings for awards.

The 9th Oriental Painting Exhibition is notable for the display of the arts that follows the principles of saranga in Indian and Chinese art, as well as the Darbari, modern, conceptual, and traditional art traditions of the East.

Abdus Satter, Rofique Ahmed, and Malay Bala are well-known artists whose works evoke the Darbari Gharana, whilst Nikhil Das and Tiger Nazir have mostly depicted folk aspects in their works.

The show is diverse in terms of the number of Bangladeshi artists from different age groups. Many paintings depict modern themes, but the techniques used to create them are oriental, and vice versa. Both themes and techniques, on the other hand, are in the oriental style.

Art lovers will be able to experience a variety of oriental arts, ranging from landscapes influenced by Shilpacharya Abanindranath Tagore’s iconic Shahjadpur Series paintings to symbolic works, as well as mixed-media and new media works.

Several painters have used perfect wash technique, gouache, tempera, and Mughal miniature style to reflect current events in their paintings.

Some artists have portrayed conceptual paintings that incorporate motifs, smooth lines, and traditional themes. As a result, the audience will be able to see complete wash paintings, tempera, calligraphy, print, and new media works, among other things.

OPSG started its journey in 2009. To promote and disseminate oriental art in Bangladesh and beyond borders, the group has been organizing art exhibitions, workshops, seminars, along with supporting fine art students and promising artists of Bangladesh collaborating with both conventional and contemporary oriental art journey of the world since its inception.

The exhibition will remain open for all every day from 10:00am to 8:00pm till March 24.
