Biopic of Soumitra Chatterjee to be released on April 15

Soumitra Chatterjee’s much-awaited biopic, ‘Abhijaan’, is set to release on April 15. The second trailer of the film was released on Sunday. Directed by Parambrata Chatterjee, Abhijaan stars Soumitra Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta and Parambrata in lead roles, reports India Today.

Actor Jisshu Sengupta, who plays the role of younger Soumitra in the film along with actor and director Parambrata Chatterjee, launched the trailer in the presence of the cast and crew in Kolkata. The trailer features glimpses of the journey of Soumitra Chatterjee. From his struggling period to his reaching the pinnacle of success, the film highlights important moments of his life and the people associated with him.

Talking about the late actor, Parambrata said, “The History of Indian cinema remains incomplete without the mention of Soumitra Chatterjee. I am truly indebted to him for agreeing to not even just allow me to make this movie but also act in it. His demise is truly unfortunate and a major loss for the film and theatre fraternity. He was extremely active even at his age and I have shared some wonderful moments while working on Abhijaa

He further added, “Capturing the era and the mannerisms of other renowned personalities were quite a challenge but my entire starcast played their roles to perfection. Abhijaan, to all of us will always remain special.”

Apart from Soumitra Chatterjee, Jisshu and Parambrata, Abhijaan will see Paoli Dam playing the role of Suchitra Sen, Sohini Sarkar as Madhabi Mukhopadhyay.

The veteran Bengali actor breathed his last on November 15, 2020.
