Drik Picture Library has organised an exhibition titled ‘Women in Journalism in Bangladesh: History and Experiences’ in its gallery at Panthapath in Dhaka.
Dedicated to the martyred intellectual journalist Selina Parveen, the exhibition was inaugurated on March 19 in the presence of Selina Parveen’s brother Shahabuddin Shelley and other members of her family. Nasimun Ara Haque, president of the Bangladesh Women Journalists’ Center, senior women journalists including Sherina Afroz, Bilkis Sumi and Rozina Islam were also present at the opening ceremony.
A conference of women journalists was also held at Drik Path Bhaban on March 20. The main objective of the conference was to strengthen communication among women journalists across the country and collectively highlight their voices.
In October 2021, Drik launched a countrywide project on ‘Journalism in Bangladesh: Experiences of Women Journalists’ to gather insight into the struggles and lives of women journalists of Bangladesh.
As part of the research, Drik arranged several discussions with women journalists in all the divisions of the country, listened to their everyday experiences and stories of struggle along with professional achievements. This exhibition is the part of that study.
Subject to Covid-19 health restrictions, the exhibition will remain open to public every day from 3:00pm to 9:00pm till March 31, 2022.
