The teaser of the much-awaited film titled ‘Mujib: The Making of a Nation’ based on Bangabandhu’s life directed by veteran Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal will be unveiled at the Cannes Market in May.

The film is now undergoing a lengthy VFX process ahead of a preliminary teaser being prepared for the Cannes Market.

“We are hoping to attract distributors in Cannes, because a large no of distributors from around the world gather in the festival than any other festival,” said Benegal to an interview with Variety.

The shooting of the Indian part of the biopic began in Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari at Goregaon of Mumbai in January this year after a delay for the Covid-19 pandemic. In February, Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud visited the film sets. The Bangladesh part of the movie was shot in November last year.

Arifin Shuvoo, National award winner as the best actor for the film ‘Dhaka Attack,’ has played the title role of the film.

Actress Nusraat Faria, plays the role of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Elina Shammi portrays the role of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the movie.

Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Prarthana Fardin Dighi, Jannatul Sumaiya, Gazi Rakayet, Tauquir Ahmed, Dilara Zaman, Siam Ahmed, Misha Sawdagar, Sayem Samad, Raisul Islam Asad, Shahidul Alam Sacchu and Khairul Alam Sabuj are among the other cast.

The name and poster of the film were released on March 17 on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s birthday. The poster is based on the historic March 7th speech. The tagline of the film ‘Mujib’ has been given as ‘The Making of a Nation’.

A pioneer of India’s New Wave cinema movement, the 87-year-old Benegal is one of the doyens of the Indian film industry. He has won India’s National Film Awards numerous times, with his films having played at Cannes and Berlin. In 2005, he was accorded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest film honor.
