Oscar-winning Indian musician AR Rahman will perform in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a concert titled ‘Cricket Celebrates Mujib 100’ at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.
The concert is arranged as part of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s celebration of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
AR Rahman will be performing two brand new songs written to celebrate Bangabandhu. One of them is in Bangla, while the other is in Hindi. The songs will be performed for the first time today.
The concert is organised by Bangladesh Cricket Board.
BCB director Ismail Haider Mallick said ahead of the concert, “The main attraction of the concert is AR Rahman. He will perform at least 35 songs at the concert. Apart from that, local singers, including Momtaz, will perform at the event. The concert will be conducted in two slots.”
According to the schedule, the popular band Miles will perform in the first slot of the show at 6:00pm. After that, musician Momtaz Begum will take the stage. AR Rahman will get on stage in the second slot of the five-hour-long concert. He will perform from 8:00pm to 11:00pm.
This concert was supposed to be held along with the two T20 matches of the ‘Mujib Hundred Cup’ between Asia XI and World XI in March 2020. But the pandemic situation forced BCB to postpone the event.
The event ‘Cricket Celebrates Mujib 100’ will begin with the national anthem at 6:15pm. The music lovers will be able to enter the stadium by showing tickets from 3:00pm.
Tickets are being sold in three categories – minimum Tk 1,000, Gold category at Tk 5,000 and Platinum category at Tk 10,000. Tickets went on sale on Monday and will continue today. Tickets will be available at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
The entire programme will be broadcasted live on Bangladesh Television and News 24.
