Will Smith apologizes as Rock hits the Rock Bottom

Will Smith has issued an apology to Chris Rock, the Academy and viewers after slapping the comedian on stage at the 94th Academy Awards.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, SAG-AFTRA gave a statement saying, ‘“As the union representing presenters and other performers working on the Oscars, SAG-AFTRA is focused on ensuring our members always work in a safe environment. Violence or physical abuse in the workplace is never appropriate and the union condemns any such conduct.” It continued saying, “The incident involving Will Smith and Chris Rock at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable.”

Smith’s wife Pinkett Smith (alopecia patient), who has a shaved head, got a G.I. Jane joke from Rock. Smith returned to his seat after slapping Rock on the stage and kept yelling at him to his wife’s name out of his f**king mouth. For ‘King Richard’, Smith later win Oscar as Best Actor. He then apologized to the Academy and his fellow candidates before accepting his first Academy Award, but he did not name Rock.

Smith later released a statement on Monday, apologizing to Rock and calling his behavior “unacceptable and inexcusable.”

“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable,” he wrote on Instagram. “Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
