Netflix to bring ‘The Spy Kids’

The Spy Kids series is coming to Netflix. Netflix is partnering with Robert Rodriguez to relaunch and reimagine the property for a new generation. Netflix made the announcement on March 30.

The next project for the streaming service will be written, directed, and produced by Rodriguez.

The original Spy Kids stars Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino as two kidnapped agents, and Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara as their two children, who rescue them while dealing with family secrets.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The plot details of the new Spy Kids are being kept a secret, but the intent is to introduce a new family of spies.

The new one will be created in collaboration with Skydance Media and Spyglass Media, the owner of the Spy Kids rights, which signed a deal with Rodriguez a year ago to work on redeveloping the property.

Netflix continues to focus family-friendly programming with the release of the new Spy Kids.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce for Skydance, which will oversee development and production. Elizabeth Avellan and Racer Max will also produce. Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre will executive produce. The Spy Kids series has grossed more than $550 million globally.

Spy Kids marks Rodriguez’s return to Netflix, where he previously directed the 2020 superhero film We Can Be Heroes. According to reports, a sequel is in the works.
