Alliance française de Dhaka has arranged a theatrical performance titled ‘Sur le champ’ by Jean-Paul Sermadiras and Didier Galas at its Auditorium Nouvelle Vague at 4:00pm today.
‘Sur le champ’ adapts a very ancient history in India where a prince is afflicted by a war that destroys his family and his people. He does not know what to do or think. In an empty sand space, there are two clowns - they wonder about the meaning of life, the reality of happiness, and the ability to act in our present world. Didier Galas and Jean Paul Sermadiras make coexist deep spiritual questions by acting on physicality and humour.
Jean-Paul Sermadiras earned a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Paris. He received training at Blanche Salant’s International Workshop. In 1995, he founded the Compagnie du PasSage. He performed at the Avignon Festival on several occasions. On stage, he appeared in over forty plays by Molière, Shakespeare, and Chekhov all throughout France as well as Morocco and India, among other places.
Didier Galas is an actor and stage director. His interest in masks and in the way bodies reveal themselves onstage developed early. For over thirty years, his passion has led him on a journey from the West to the East. Japanese and Chinese theatre techniques are spread through his artistic identity.
