MOMA to host ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’

After the official selection at Cannes, Abdullah Mohammad Saad-directed ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ is going to be screened at the 51st New Directors New Films on April 29 and May 1 at The Museum of Modern Art and Film at Lincoln Center in New York.

‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ is the first Bangladeshi film to be featured in the US Museum of Modern Art.

MOMA has announced the news on their official website.

About 26 feature films and 11 short films have been invited for this year’s festival. The work of 39 directors will be screened in FLC and Moma theaters, including 21 female producers.

“This formally rigorous, breathlessly paced indictment of an abusive, protected patriarchal society is a tough-minded triumph from Bangladeshi filmmaker Abdullah Mohammad Saad. The title character, played ferociously by Azmeri Haque Badhon, is an assistant professor at a university hospital; after she witnesses an instance of inappropriate sexual behavior between a male associate and a female student, she tries to do what she believes to be the right thing, only to be met with resistance on every level,” the description read.

‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ is scripted, edited and directed by Abdullah Mohammad Saad. Following the screening in Cannes on July 7, ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ was also screened in Melbourne International Film Festival in August.

Along with Badhon, the ensemble cast of ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ includes Saberi Alam, Afia Zahin, Kazi Sami Hasan, Afia Tabassum and Yasir Al Haque.
